Reporting to the Manager of Instrumentation, the qualified individual will work in a cross-platform environment including power, instrumentation, controls and mechanical disciplines. The successful candidate must be equally at ease working in a group or autonomously within a cross-functional organizational structure and would be responsible for all aspects of their project delivery including design evaluation, detailed design, design reviews, factory acceptance testing, product integration and commissioning.


  • Supporting the development and submission of customer proposals
  • Specifying new products and performing product evaluations
  • Peer-reviewing of internal and 3rd party product or system designs
  • Designing power systems based to meet international standards
  • Generating and reviewing design documentation (DWGs. BOMs, ect.)
  • Performing power analysis calculations on components and systems
  • Supporting production assembly and testing of products and systems
  • Performing site commissioning of products & systems internationally
  • Calibration of components, sub-systems and systems
  • Troubleshooting complex multi-disciplined systems
  • Supporting engineer and other component testing operations
  • Supporting research and test programs

Education & Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess a strong work ethic, good communication skills, and have experience in a multi-disciplinary, cross functional, team-based work environment in addition to the following:

  • Canadian citizenship with a valid passport (no travel restrictions)
  • Professional Engineering (P.Eng) status or be in the application process
  • Possess a minimum of 7 years of experience in the following areas:
    • Low and medium voltage power system design
    • Power system analysis and calculations (coordination, short circuit, etc.)
    • Specification of switchgear for power distribution and component feeds
    • Specification of transformers for power distribution and component feeds
    • Specification of VFD systems for component testing and loading
    • Proficiency of power analysis tools (ETAP etc.)
    • Design of North American building power systems
    • Intimate knowledge of international standards (CSA, NEC, IEC, CE etc.)
    • Power system test methods, equipment
    • Specification of power system maintenance procedures and schedules
    • Specification of protection, control and monitoring systems for power applications
    • Commissioning of complex power systems using 3rd party products
    • Client interfacing and engagement during all phases of project delivery
    • Specification of Instrumentation and PLC interfaces to power systems
    • Working knowledge of data acquisition and control systems (DACS)
    • Practical design knowledge of analog, digital I/O, ACIDC relays etc.
  • Experience in generating design documents, drawings and bills-of-materials
  • Experience in generating and executing product test procedures
  • A working knowledge of system design, manufacturing and test methods
  • Experience with hands-on electro-mechanical assembly, test, and verification
  • Experience in product design for test, manufacturability, and reliability
  • Experience using AutoCAD or other 2D/3D CAD tools

  • Substation design
  • Power generation facility design
  • Motor driveline systems
  • Dynamometers system design
  • SCADA system design, specification and commissioning
  • Temperature, pressure, strain, speed and flow measurement techniques
  • Sensors, transducers, resolvers, thermocouples, RVDTs, etc
  • Communication protocols & interfaces (IP, RS232, RS485, Ethernet, etc.)
  • Thrust measurement
  • Bleed flow measurement
  • Environmental monitoring
    • Wind speed, wind direction, humidity, emissions, etc.
  • Fiber optic communications components and principles
