Behind the Scenes at Rolls-Royce’s New Mega-Engine Test Facility
Aerospace Testing International caught up with Joe Hajjar, MDS’s Vice President of Business Development, to discuss the landmark testing facility MDS will be designing and building for Rolls-Royce.
MDS is responsible for all aspects of the project, from its design to on-site construction management. As a Tier 1 supplier of this ‘turnkey’ test facility, MDS’s team of engineers and project managers will be handling the project from end-to-end. All mission critical test systems will be designed in-house in Ottawa, Canada and MDS engineers and technicians will be deployed to Derby, U.K. to manage the installation and commissioning once the manufacturing is complete.
“This facility will be the biggest in the world and house the world’s largest test cell. At the moment the biggest is around 14m2. The floor to ceiling height of the new Rolls-Royce cell will be 15m, and it’s 15m wide”, explains Joe Hajjar.
