MDS Aero secures largest order in aerospace firm’s history

A $30-million contract with the maintenance division of Air France-KLM announced in early 2011 has set MDS Aero Support Corp on a trajectory to become a $100-million annual revenue generator by 2016, company officials say.
Despite being one of the largest defence and security companies in town, MDS Aero’s low profile means many have never heard of it.
The company and its 150 local employees are tucked away on Old Innes Road where its team of engineers design and supply test facilities and systems for gas turbine engines used by aviation, industrial and marine customers.

That Air France-KLM contract – to build a 1,350-square-metre facility in Paris, the likes of which the company had never before tackled – led to two contracts of a similar nature shortly after. Both were facilities constructed for a major aircraft engine manufacturer; one in Germany in 2011 and one in Mississippi last summer for a combined value of $130 million.
“That’s been a big boost,” says president and CEO Kevin Fitzgerald. “It’s the strongest order book we’ve ever had.”
