Software in at the Pinnacle of Evolution In order to provide its clients with reliably effective and trusted programs, MDS’ software engineering group consistently invests in the latest in hardware and software design tools. MDS’ responsibility includes the design, development, implementation and support of the MDS Data Acquisition System software, which includes real time data acquisition monitoring software that runs on a UNIX/Linux platform, the Graphical User Interfaces on a Windows PC platform, and software that runs on embedded systems.

Prudent Software Management The MDS software engineering team is involved in the System Software Requirements specification, and follows through with a formal development process through to system implementation. The MDS development process includes the use of the Rational Rose for UML modeling.

MDS has implemented real time interfaces for a large number of devices, including:

  • VXI, VME and PCI acquisition cards
  • GE Fanuc and Allen-Bradley PLCs
  • Intelligent pressure scanners from PSI and Scanivalve
  • Intelligent temperature scanners from Kaye and Scanivalve
  • A variety of Ethernet based systems (TCP/IP and UDP), including RTP products, Modbus Ethernet, and proprietary client systems
  • A series of serial interfaces (RS232/485/422), including Nobel Systems, Modbus, temperature/humidity systems, and proprietary client systems
  • GPIB interfaces to pressure systems, vibration systems, and instruments
  • ARINC-429 and MIL-STD-1553 interfaces

  • Database development includes Oracle (RDBMS and Forms), MS FoxPro, MS Access
  • Integration with the following applications: DataView, Sphinx Open, Far Point Spreadsheet, MS Excel, Hummingbird Exceed
  • Tools employed include Rational Rose, Insure++, TimeStorm, TimeTrace, X Designer
